James
It is James, the half brother of Jesus after the flesh, that wrote this letter. He wrote to Jewish believers scattered in various places, probably about 40 to 45 AD. This epistle is eminently practical in tone. The purpose is to show how true faith can be discerned. In this letter, the place of works is explained, not as a ground of faith, but as evidence of faith.
