1 John
John the apostle probably served the Church in Ephesus towards the close of his long life. These three letters may have been written to the churches in that area, anytime between about 70 and 100 AD. By this time, the Gnostics were active in the churches, teaching that salvation was through knowledge, rather than faith in the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ. John writes to encourage true believers, speaking of where assurance of salvation can be found.
